Racknid Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@thebxt.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Racknid is a modular roof rack system with a leg-lift attachment that makes removing and reinstalling Jeep hard tops and fiberglass truck toppers a one-person job. Its telescoping legs tuck away horizontally for driving, then drop into position when it’s time for a quick top-off moment (from your vehicle… behave).

We made it up!
We stepped back, stared at our first prototype with the legs deployed, and had a realization—it looked like a spider perched on top of our black Jeep Rubicon.

And just like that, your new favorite aftermarket upgrade was born.
Rack + Arachnid = Racknid.

Racknids are not actual spiders. They are roof racks. They have no teeth, no venom, and cannot bite you.

To quote the best movie, Billy Madison: “What you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard… I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.”

But seriously— congrats—you’ve got imagination. No spiders were harmed. No brains were lost. Carry on. 🕷️🚫

Yep! The Racknid Spider Spine: Roof Rail is the backbone for everything to come.
Install it now, and you’ll be locked and loaded to add every accessory we roll out next.

Absolutely!

We’ll keep rolling out new Racknid accessories, but we built the crossbars with square tubing so you can get creative too.
Those flat surfaces? Perfect for mounting brackets or your own custom setups. The square tubes even double as receivers for 1.25” inserts—just like the hitches on the bumper.

Go ahead… imagine the possibilities.

Yes, our racks are proudly designed and built in the USA.
Stock aluminum tubes and plates are laser-cut, machined, bent, welded, and powder-coated right here at home. Some small hardware like screws, bolts, and nuts may not always be 100% American-made—but we promise to try our darndest.

Yes. Jeeps are meant to be topless. But we all just accepted keeping the top on because taking it off was such a pain. No more excuses.

*Disclaimer: If you’re a grown man blasting 1990s boy band hits in your Jeep, we recommend leaving the top on and the windows up. Jeepers have a reputation to protect

Yes. Racknid Roof Rails bolt right onto your hard top with stainless steel screws.
The screws clamp the rails and backing plates together, sandwiching your hard top to keep everything securely in place. Installation? Super simple—just a regular drill and a 3/8” ratchet or combination wrench. We even include the drill bit, hardware, and allen wrench in the kit.

Racknid Roof Racks do not (yet) increase the standard weight carrying capacity listed in your Jeep manual (usually 150lbs). Buyer Beware. Most roof racks don't advertise this. Any roof rack system that doesn't add internal or external bracing that attaches down directly to the body or frame will not have an increased weight capacity. Those Jeep hard tops are made to be light so you can lift/carry them, but they're not strong. Don't worry, there will be future accessories for our Racknid system that tie our Spider Spine Rail System to the frame and body of your Jeep. And rest assured, they will preserve your ability to quickly remove your top. Buy the foundation now, add on the extra weight capacity later as you build your offroad masterpiece.

Sure, those no-drill clamping crossbars work… if you’re carrying a big load of pillows or a 64 pack of toilet paper.
For heavier stuff, they fall short—the fiberglass drip rails just can’t handle all the adventure gear we’ve got planned for your Jeep.

Our engineering roots are in the Aerospace and Marine Industry where weight and corrosion are primary design criteria. This weight consideration is crucial for every Jeep accessory that attaches to your roof. The heavier the roof rack, the heavier the roof you have to lift off your Jeep. Also, weight carrying capacity of your Jeep's hard top includes the weight of the roof rack, so lighter materials mean more payload capacity for your adventures. Many roof racks utilize steel, but steel is heavier and will eventually rust. No corrosion concerns with our aluminum products. If you scratch the powder coat, it won't start rusting, it'll just need a little touch up (unless you cherish those memorable scratches and dings as evidence of good times on the trail).

We’re a small business (read: small team) with BIG dreams—so thanks for your patience!

Orders usually ship in 1–6 weeks, depending on demand. Change your mind before we ship? No problem—we’ll refund your payment minus a 10% service fee.

Current Racknid kits fit 2018–present Jeep JL 4-door hard tops (just like the ones pictured).
More Jeep models are coming soon—stay tuned and keep your adventure hat on!

Not quite… yet.
Stay tuned—we’ll be rolling out a model for your Gladiator’s removable top and your truck bed cap soon.

Yep, Free Shipping to the U.S. except Hawaii and Alaska. We don't want you wasting your time calculating shipping when you should be out there exploring. If you're in Alaska or Hawaii, email us and we'll arrange shipping separately.

So you can see it when you pop off your Jeep’s hard top.

You’re more likely to find it behind the wheel of a topless Jeep than stuck at your computer. So get out there and explore as much as 4 wheels and 2 legs will let you!
